OUR AFFILIATION

We, as a church, are affiliated with Elim Fellowship Canada, established in 1984, which is a sister organization of Elim U.S.A.   Book Review

The roots of our fellowship are with Elim U.S.A. which was born out of a vision and passion for end time revival given by God to Ivan Q. Spencer.

In 1924 Ivan’s small congregation established Elim Bible Institute, a school to train and equip believers to pursue God and revival.

In 1931, in order to support their graduating students in missions, Elim was pressed into establishing what is now Elim Fellowship. Ivan Spencer was reluctant to take this step, declaring:

This brief summary and excerpts are taken from the book “Willow in the Wind, the Story of Ivan Q. Spencer”.

Tt is the history of Elim via the biography of its founder. It is not dry factual material, but reads like fiction, full of romance, heartache, and victory. Ivan’s life was full of adventure – and God’s hand was in it all. The reality of history is there – all the birth pangs and refining processes of the earthen vessel God had chosen to bear His priceless treasure. There is no false adulation, no pretending that life was always happily-ever-after, but God was always real.

“The Church is an organism, not an organization. It is clearly recognizable that the Church today is in a state indescribably inferior to that set forth in the Scriptures. God has told us that He will restore the New Testament church in a power and glory exceeding that of Apostolic days. What are we to do with this great promise? Shall we follow the example of Abraham in his unbelief, and add another Ishmael to the long list of organizations? Shall we not, rather, hold steady before the Lord, confidently expecting that He will do what He has promised?
All the great revivals of history have declined sooner or later, after organizational system crept in. The experience of Christians in all ages has been that organization causes inspired doctrine to degenerate into the dogmatic statements of fixed creeds, and saddles God’s anointed ministers with executive burdens which sadly hamper them in the work...”

From Elim’s inception there has been emphasis on:

  • open fellowship

  • appetite for revival worldwide

  • a ‘hands off’ approach to worship and spiritual ministry

  • priority on gifts of the Spirit and holiness which lead to deeper teaching on relationship to Christ

  • continual questing for God’s best

  • an aversion to human organization

  • keen awareness that a sweeping visitation of the Spirit alone can meet humanity’s need

  •
Another quote about Ivan Q. Spencer captures the heart of what has become Elim U.S.A and Elim Fellowship Canada.

"Fellowship with the whole Body of Christ was important to Ivan, whose vision of Body ministry extended beyond denominational boundaries. His emphasis upon the Baptism in the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit as being placed in the body, the Church, rather than given to the individual for personal edification, necessitated that he consider himself a member of the Church universal. He also thought of the school as being the property and ministry of the whole Body of Christ.
The quatrain, later adapted on Elim’s letterhead, was truly his conviction from the beginning: ‘The whole Christ, our sufficiency; the whole Bible, our textbook; the whole Church, our fellowship; the whole world, our parish.’"
